He started attending La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, at the age of 14 and completed his artistic training with the Vallmitjana bothers. He gained prestige as a result of his participation in the Fine Arts Exhibition of 1872 in Madrid. In 1873 he went to Paris for three years. He studied with Carpeaux and Carrier-Belleuse and was very successful with the public. Upon returning to Barcelona he won several prizes there and later on won several others in Paris and Berlin.

His work is in an academicist style that exudes renovating elements of the new Modernista aesthetic (Bust de dona jove [Bust of a Young Woman], MNAC collection).

He also worked with Casa Masriera (see L. Masriera) and made the sculptures on the façade of the firm's new shop in Carrer de Bailèn in Barcelona.
