The renovation of Urbanc, the Art Nouveau department store building in Ljubljana, will be completed at the end of September and will host the Emporium fashion store.
The department store was built in 1903 by Felix Urbanc, a distinguished Ljubljana tradesman who manufactured textiles on Prešeren Square. The plans were drawn up by Friedrich Sigmundt, a renowned Austrian architect from Graz, who designed the building in a French Art Nouveau style along the lines of French department stores of the late nineteenth century.

Treasure hunt: an activity for all ages
Barcelona, 12.08.2010 | Published by Museu del Modernsime Català (MMCAT)
The treasure hunt at the Museu del Modernisme Català unfolds as a nineteenth-century version of geocaching, the GPS-guided treasure-hunting game. The moment we cross the threshold and enter the museum, all our twenty-first-century technology is of no use. Participants will rely on tools available two centuries ago - a compass, for example - or better yet, the clues we'll slip into your hands at the information desk.
The treasure hunt is a free activity that helps visitors discover the details and anecdotes that lie behind the works of art and might be missed. The path follows the recommended route through the museum to ensure a pleasant and rewarding visit. If you're still dependent on new technology, the point of origin is N 41° 23.325 E 2° 9.798 - but your GPS won't help you beyond that point in the hunt!

Réseau Art Nouveau Network to Start a New Project
08.07.2010 | Published by Anne-Sophie Riffaud Buffat
May 2010 will see the launch of a five-year project on the relationship between Art Nouveau & Ecology, organised by the Réseau Art Nouveau Network. The 22 institutions in Europe and farther afield that form the Network share a common interest in the world's Art Nouveau legacy. The new topic will be approached through a travelling, hands-on exhibition titled "Art Nouveau & Nature" in addition to an international colloquium to celebrate the Network's tenth anniversary in Brussels on 4-5 December 2010. The project will examine how Art Nouveau is perceived and will embrace a variety of materials and activities for a wide-ranging audience that includes the general public, professionals in the field, the university community, and children. Planned are two "historical labs" - or symposia - each year, as well as publications, educational materials, a website, online activities and newsletters. The network will also reach out to persons who are visually impaired and is currently studying the viability of a special exhibition for them.
The following municipal or regional members are taking part: Ålesund, Norway; Aveiro, Portugal; Bad Nauheim, Germany; Barcelona and Terrassa, Spain; Brussels, Belgium; Darmstadt, Germany; Helsinki, Finland; Ljubljana, Slovenia; Nancy, France; Lombardy, Italy; and Riga, Latvia. There are also three associates: Glasgow, United Kingdom; La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland; and Havana, Cuba.
