The Monuments and Sites Department in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium manages heritage protection by applying the legal measures it has available for the inception of proceedings, the saving of heritage and the carrying out of inventories. It is also responsible for responding to requests to restore monuments and other complexes and to monitor the subsequent intervention works, and supports private initiatives with financial grants in matters of restoration and promotion. Finally, one of its objectives is the organisation of activities to disseminate knowledge and raise public awareness concerning heritage.
It is a regional body that has jurisdiction in the field of urban and town planning.
