Marlene Dumas is one of the most influential painters in contemporary art. She confronts and seduces us with her expressive figurative motifs. Taking on the role of curator for the first time, she presents us with Edvard Munch's art in dialogue with her own works.

The travelling exhibition "Modernisme and Flowers. From Nature to Architecture" focuses on how the decorative arts of Modernisme represented plants and flowers when used in construction. An exhibition is for the first time establishing a dialogue between the world of plants and Modernista architecture. The exhibition discourse has been divided into four areas. The first explains the creative process of artists when "capturing" the images of flowers. The second involves a journey through eight applied arts fields in architecture and their respective creation processes: ceramics, mosaics, ironwork, stonework, stucco, hydraulic mosaics, stained glass and plasterwork. The third offers an exhibition tour of flowers and plants that recreate a huge timeless garden. The exhibition concludes by looking at the difficulty of preserving the applied arts in construction.

The exhibition curators are Fatima López and Marta Saliné, both PhDs in Art History and members of the GRACMON research group at the University of Barcelona.

The exhibition "Toulouse-Lautrec and the Spirit of Montmartre" focuses on the artist's career during his time in Montmartre. A period in his life that he shared with Bohemian and Avant-Garde inspired artists and one that reflects a key moment in the development of modern art.

Art Nouveau was a very significant period for the creation of wallpaper and fabrics. Inside Art Nouveau buildings, both Victor Horta and his contemporaries gave meaning to the concept of total art and revolutionised the applied arts, abolishing the hierarchy between different forms of plastic art. Original motifs, complex craftwork... the exhibition restores this fragile heritage to the place it deserves in the history of forms.

2018 is the centenary of Egon Schiele's death (1890 - 1918). Marking this occasion, the Belvedere is showing its collection of Schiele paintings with highlights including Eduard Kosmack, Façade of a House, Death and Maiden, Embrace, and Four Trees. Visitors can look forward to an outstanding presentation shedding light on the full extent of the Schiele collection once housed at the Belvedere.

The Institut Mathindenhöhe Darmstadt celebrates the 150th birthday of Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and Rhine with an exhibition in the Ernst Ludwig House, today's Artist's Colony Museum. The exhibition will feature the creative work of the multi-talented Grand Duke. This first-of-its-kind exhibition will present a multifaceted compilation of the grand Duke's poems, musical compositions, theatre plays, expressive watercolours, philanthropic projects, as well as public relations activities. Thus the exhibition will illustrate the often-quoted guiding principal of Ernst Ludwig: "Have reverence for the past and courage to freshly dare the new".

The Maricel Museum presents the central exhibition of the centenary of the Maricel. It is a portrait of the process of design and construction of a singular building, which at the time of its inauguration caused a significant impact in the cultural circles of Catalonia.

Elza Kastl Obereigner was born in Ljubljana on 26 April 1884. Although, generally best known for her portraits, in Ljubljana she was known as the "the last Slovenian miniaturist".  The temporary exhibition on show at the City Museum of Ljubljana is presenting her oeuvre in sculpture.

Mallorca joins in commemorating the Jujol 140 Year with an exhibition entitled "Jujol a la Seu" (Jujol in La Seu) that can be seen in the Cathedral of Mallorca until 7 April 2019. The show aims to provide information about the artistic figure of Josep Maria Jujol, especially his participation in the adaptations made to the Cathedral by Antoni Gaudí in in the early 20th century.

"Gauguin: A Spiritual Journey" is the first exhibition at FAMSF dedicated to the work of Paul Gauguin (1848-1903).
The show explores two themes central to his career: the relationships that shaped his life and work and his quest to understand spirituality, both his own and that of other cultures he encountered. More than sixty Gauguin works will be on view -ranging from oil paintings and works on paper to wood carvings and ceramics- alongside art of the Pacific Islands from the FAMSF collection. These works combined encompass distinctive phases of Gauguin's career to show the development of his ideas, the scope of his oeuvre and the inspiration he found in New Zealand, the Marquesas Islands and Tahiti.

On the centenary of the death of Koloman Moser (1868-1918), the MAK is hosting a large exhibition to showcase his wide-ranging oeuvre, which covers the disciplines of painting and graphic design, applied art, interior design, fashion, and scenography.

The National Museum in Kraków is commemorating the 110th anniversary of Stanis?aw Wyspianski 's death with an exhibition entitled "Wyspianski" that includes more than 900 works by this outstanding, multifaceted artist from Poland at the turn of the 20th century. Wyspianski was a major poet, painter, playwright, designer, illustrator, theatre reformer, graphic designer and set designer.

Today, hardly anyone knows who they were, even though they made a part of art history: artists such as Elena Luksch-Makowsky, Helene Funke, and Erika Giovanna Klien contributed significantly to Viennese Modernism and artistic trends that manifested after the First World War. To commemorate these artists, their art, and their emancipatory achievements, a long overdue retrospective has now been staged in the Lower Belvedere.

The exhibition entitled "Kraków 1900" presents the story of the city at the turn of the 20th century, a period known as Kraków's Belle Époque.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) , in collaboration with the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum and "Kobe Shimbun" newspaper, is staging an exhibition entitled "Barcelona. City of Artistic Miracles. The Essence of Modern Catalan Art from Modernisme to the Avant-garde", which will be seen in five museums and galleries in Japan and includes some 150 works from major Spanish museums and collections, 60 of which belong to the MNAC collection.

The exhibition sets out to explain the major changes in the city beginning in the second half of the 19th century and continuing into the next century as shown through the works of artists such as Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Isidre Nonell, Joaquim Mir, Ricard Canals, Antoni Gaudí, Puig i Cadafalch, Josep Maria Jujol, Gaspar Homar, Juli González, Joaquim Torres García, Joaquim Sunyer, Josep Clarà, Xavier Nogués, Manolo Hugué and Pablo Gargallo, among others.

The show will also run at the Himeji City Museum of Art from 29 June to 1 September 2019 before it travels to Sapporo and Shizuoka to finish its tour in Tokyo in April 2020.

The exhibition "Chapeau! From Casas and Picasso to Balenciaga and Pertegaz" is dedicated to hats and all that they represented at a given moment. But it is primarily an aesthetic look at one of the most fascinating items of clothing in the first half of the 20th century, although its existence dates back many centuries earlier. In theory, this would be the first exhibition of a historical, retrospective and monographic nature on the subject of hats ever organised in Catalonia and also the rest of Spain.

The exhibition presents 47 works by leading artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Fortuny, Rodin, Klee, Matisse, Picabia, Picasso, Dalí and Miró.

To celebrate the triple anniversary of the house of architect Victor Horta -100 years of the sale of the building, 50 years of the inauguration of the Museum and 30 years of restoration- the Horta Museum is staging three new exhibitions that focus on the still unknown facet of Victor Horta as a collector. The three exhibitions, entitled "The History of the Museum", "The Horta House" and "The Workshop and Its Enlargement", are running concurrently in the Museum's three buildings.

The National Gallery presents the first UK exhibition of Spain's Impressionist, Sorolla, in over a century.
Known as the "master of light" for his iridescent canvases, this is a rare opportunity to see the most complete exhibition of Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida's (1863-1923) paintings outside Spain.

The Leopold Museum is dedicating one of the most comprehensive retrospectives to date to Oskar Kokoschka (1886-1980), once dubbed the "chief wildling" among artists. Comprising some 260 items, including key works from international collections alongside others that have rarely or never been displayed before, the exhibition focuses on Kokoschka's multi-faceted work from all periods of his oeuvre that he produced at various places of activity, including Vienna, Dresden, Prague, London and, lastly, Villeneuve.

The wide variety of works on display will help visitors to undertake a journey through the various European styles during the late 19th and early 20th centuries: Modernisme, Art Nouveau, Liberty, Secession and Jugendstil, while at the same time learning about the different sensibilities with which artists tackled the subject of femininity.

This major exhibition brings together 45 works by Vincent van Gogh to reveal how he was inspired by Britain and how he inspired British artists.

On show for the first time, this exhibition shines a spotlight on the work of 18 women designers and a product photographer who worked for the Deutsche Werkstätten in the early 20th century. These artists have been forgotten over time despite their busy design and teaching activities, multitude of exhibitions and successfully winning competitions. Women who worked as furniture designers even though they were only often trained as drawing teachers, and generally without a university entrance qualification at the time. Women who disrupted traditional social roles and gained new autonomy and self-determination in their everyday professional and social lives  by pursuing a field that had been previously reserved for men. These women not only made a vital contribution to the success of fledgling workshops, they also decisively advanced the reform movement in Germany.

The touring exhibition "Blue, the Colour of Art Nouveau" aims to explore the spirit of a period in which blue was a predominant thread. In the late nineteenth century, relating landscapes and the phenomena of nature to moods, so as to transmit the soul's hues and tonalities, ended up constituting a poetological aesthetic that became inscribed within the great movement of modernity, moving through Symbolism and witnessing the birth of the cinematograph.

The exhibition now on show in Liverpool is the touring exhibition organised in 2018 to celebrate Glasgow's 150th anniversary of the birth of one of its greatest sons, the architect, designer and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The centrepiece of the City's celebrations was the critically and publicly acclaimed Glasgow Museums' temporary exhibition, "Charles Rennie Mackintosh - Making the Glasgow Style" at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. If you missed it in Glasgow, fear not, there are opportunities to see it on tour: firstly in Liverpool, and then across the United States of America in the following years.

The traveling exhibition "The Artisans Palace" allows you to discover, through the photographs of Ramon Manent, the unique shapes, pieces and structures that are hidden in each room and corner of this urban palace designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí in the late nineteenth century, which illustrate the little gems that complementen the architecture of this building.

The conference  will explore Ruskin's interactions with, influence on, and legacy for the museum world and art education.

The exhibition highlights the influence of Antoni Gaudí on Miró's production through a group of prints titled Gaudí Series, comprising twenty-one pieces in a variety of sizes and featuring fantastic characters with which the artist paid tribute to the architect in the mid-1960s. Miró was particularly drawn to the rhythm and structure of Gaudí's work; he shared his urge to question the use of existing procedures and materials as well as a deep bond with nature, the generating force behind his creations. The treatment of colour and the use of curved lines in these prints are reminiscent of the trencadís broken-tile mosaic technique, a hallmark of Gaudí's work.

The exhibition aims to recover the work of a Catalan painter who in his lifetime was very successful, but who with the inexorable passage of time has been forgotten by the different generations of historiographers.
The installation focuses on the work of the sculptor and painter Antoni Fabrés i Costa (1854 - 1938), who at the age of 25, while a student at the Llotja School in Barcelona, was awarded a grant to go to Rome, the city that was then the natural destination for outstanding artists. After he arrived there, in 1875, a year after the death of Marià Fortuny, Fabrés devoted himself to drawing, painting and watercolour, three techniques that he mastered like none other in his day.

The exhibition traces the life and work of the Swiss painter, Félix Vallatton (1865-1925), who became one of the greatest printmakers of his age in the UK's first major survey.
Through more than 80 paintings and exquisite prints, this exhibition reveals Vallotton's extraordinary body of work, including compelling portraits, dreamlike landscapes and satirical prints distilled into pure blocks of black and white.

To commemorate the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, the Institut Mathildenhöhe is presenting the exhibition that will shed light on the importance of the Bauhaus and post-World War II architecture. The exhibition in 1901 by the Darmstadt Artists' Colony was the very first permanent exhibition of modern architecture in the world and it has influenced many exhibitions and urban planning projects ever since. It was mainly the colony members Joseph Maria Olbrich and Peter Behrens who presented new ideas in Darmstadt through their future-oriented architecture and holistic design and these were further developed by the Werkbund, which both of them co-founded, and ultimately by the Bauhaus. It is no coincidence that Bauhaus directors Walter Gropius and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe both worked in the studio of Peter Behrens very early in their careers and witnessed how the architect fused handicraft, creative design and large-scale manufacturing. After 1945, the heritage of the Darmstadt Artist's Colony inspired the war-torn city to rebuild itself as a centre of modern architecture and design and these endeavours led to the construction of several "Meisterbauten" (Masterful Architectonic Creations) designed by such renowned architects as Max Taut, Otto Bartning and Ernst Neufert.

This installation is the first retrospective on the European continent of the Norwegian painter Harald Sohlberg (1869-1935) in honour of the artist's 150th birthday. Sohlberg, who was a contemporary and friend of Edvard Munch (1863-1944), is best known for his major work Winter Night in Rondane, produced between 1899 and 1914. The painting still captures the soul of the Norwegians today and was voted the most popular painting in the country by citizens in the 1990s. This icon of Norwegian art, which has never been on loan since it was acquired in 1918 by the National Museum in Oslo, will be on show in Wiesbaden.

Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946) is a Finnish national icon. From her early naturalistic style - honed during her studies in France - to her highly abstracted self-portraits, this exhibition will present Schjerfbeck for the first time to UK audiences.

The 3rd Egon Schiele Symposium will be held from 10am to 5pm on 10 November.

Projected on all the surface of the Atelier des Lumières, the new digital exhibition immerses visitors in the paintings of Vincent van Gogh. This new visual and musical production retraces the intense life of the artist, who, during the last ten years of his life, painted more than 2,000 pictures, which are now in collections around the world.

With 98 works on display by 68 artists, the exhibition seeks to analyse not only the place that pastel holds compared to traditionally venerated oil painting, but also the reasons that led different artists in the 19th and 20th centuries to turn to and reclaim this medium. Divided into 10 chronological sections, the show highlights the key moments and crucial figures in the rebirth of pastel during the first iteration of modernity, a time when this technique came to be considered an art in its own right.

The touring exhibition "Blue. The Colour of Art Nouveau" aims to explore the spirit of a period in which blue was a predominant thread. Travelling exhibition "Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Making the Glasgow Style" will be the first exhibition in the United States not only to showcase the seminal work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) but to locate his production in relation to the larger circle of designers and craftspeople with which he shared sources, stylistic features, and patrons.

By showcasing posters and paintings, sculptures, furniture and ceramics, the exhibition underscores the extraordinary artistic and artisanal blossoming that swept over and ultimately overhauled decorative taste at the beginning of the twentieth century.

To commemorate  the 150th anniversary of Austrian-Japanese friendship, the MAK presents two exhibitions:  "KUNIYOSHI +: Design and Entertainment in Japanese Woodblock Prints" and "UKIYOENOW: Tradition and Experiment".

The first presentation is devoted to the late period of the ukiyo-e. The show's main spotlight is on one of the most important and innovative artists of the nineteenth century, Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861).  In contrast, "UKIYOENOW: Tradition and Experiment" opens up new dimensions in the contemporary treatment of the Japanese art form and poses the question of how far the different forms of production-traditional handicraft and digital print-and also the new context of global/transnational pop cultures are impacting the further development of the ukiyo-e.

Curated by the Museu d'Art de Cerdanyola in collaboration with the Fundació Joan Abelló, this exhibition provides an analysis of male nudes from a feminist perspective that vindicates gender equality and the sexual and emotional diversity of gender identity.

Discover the architect Otto Wagner, a key figure in the field of European architecture at the turn of the 20th century. His works contributed greatly to the emergence of a "modern architecture".

This exhibition is part of the Viennese season organised by the Cité.

The final exhibition before the Munch Museet moves to the new building presents, for the first time in history, works from all collections of the museum alongside each other. This is the last opportunity to visit the Mseum at its iconic building from 1963.

The show includes famous works by Munch, including The Scream, Madonna, Starry Night and The Kiss and other gems from artist like Amaldus Nielsen, Harriet Backer, Ludvig Ravensberg, Teddy Røwde, Jakob Weidemann and Johan Berner Jakobsen.

The exhibition explores Tiffany's vivid designs in relation to emerging artistic and craft movements at the turn of the 20th century. Through the dynamic, illuminated display of 20 of the designer's finest stained glass table and floor lamps. "Tiffany in Bloom" introduces visitors to the magic that Tiffany created with thousands of shards of glass and the "newfangled" power of electric light. Period photographs and accounts of his artisans also provide a glimpse into Tiffany's shop and Studio.

This MAK exhibition presents the figure of Otto Prutscher (1880-1949) seventy years after his death, including the manifold roles he played in developing Viennese Modernism. Prutscher was an architect and designer who employed the entire variety of applied arts materials and was also an exhibition designer, teacher and member of all the major art reform movements, from the Secession to the Wiener Werkstätte and Werkbund.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Otto Prutscher's death, the exhibition highlights the importance of his work for the development of Viennese Modernism. The show is dedicated to Josef Hoffmann's (1870-1956) in association with Otto Prutscher (1880-1949). Like Hoffmann an architect and designer, Prutscher was master of all materials used in the applied arts. He was an exhibition designer, a teacher, and a member of the most important reform movements in art from the Secession to the Wiener Werkstätte and the Werkbund.

This exhibition presents a wide and varied selection of paintings by Anglada-Camarasa in order to present his oeuvre from a personal, romantic perspective that recalls the layout of the Museum in Pollença. It provides a unique opportunity to learn more about the work of Anglada-Camarasa through a different exhibition approach from how the work has been shown in CaixaForum until now.

The exhibition creates an opulent tableau that offers uniquely rich and complex insights into the fascination of Vienna circa 1900 and the atmosphere of this vibrant period. Comprising some 1,300 items displayed across three floors, this semi-permanent installation presents the splendour and wealth of the artistic and intellectual achievements of this era through masterpieces from the Leopold Museum and notable permanent loan works from Austrian and international collections.
